Filipino Wedding Ceremonies have some wonderful traditions different from the typical Wedding Ceremonies here in the United States.  Here are some information about Filipino wedding tradition that the couple wants to incorporate to their wedding:

~ A Catholic Filipino wedding ceremony is held with a full mass that runs about an hour.

  1. ~ There will be sets of Principal sponsors, “Ninang” and “Ninong” who will stand as the couple’s godparents.  The principal sponsors commit themselves to encouraging and guiding the bride and groom throughout their lives as married couple.

  2. ~ Aside from the bridesmaids and groomsmen, additional three pairs of wedding attendants stand as Secondary Sponsors who facilitate in the wedding candle, veil and cord ceremonies held during the nuptial mass.
          1. Veil Ceremony - The first set of sponsors are responsible for pinning
the Bride's Veil to the shoulder of the Groom. This is to symbolize
the wedding couple is clothed as one.  This is also symbolic of the groom pledging his strength and protection to his bride - the wife who he promises to take care of from this day forward.
    1. Cord Ceremony - Next, a cord in the shape of a figure-eight is placed over the bride and groom's heads and draped loosely on their shoulders. The cord symbolizes the love and friendship that bind the couple, and the figure-eight shape represents unity and infinity - a love together, forever! The cord and veil remain on the couple throughout the remainder of the nuptial mass.

Candle Ceremony - the last pair of sponsors will light two
candles on either side of a unity candle.  This represents the two lives and two spirits who will be joined together

“Arras” or 13 Golden Coin Ceremony - Lastly, the groom presents his
bride the "Arras" also known as the 13 golden coins. The "Arras"
have been blessed by the priest for a life of faithfulness and
prosperity.
